Metropolitan Dade County Protocols PA 201. PA 202, PA 203 D. SBCCI SSTD 12-97 1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Provide for a cover system that is structurally sound, impact resistant and conforming to applicable testing and performance requirements described herein. B. Except as otherwise indicated, requirements for standards of performance and workmanship are those specified in C. Provide certified independent laboratory test reports from an accredited laboratory. D. Provide certification for compliance and approval. E. Field Measurements: Verify size and location of each opening to be protected prior to fabrication. F. Installer Qualifications: Engage an experienced installer to perform work of this Section who has specialized in installing the system provided and who is approved, authorized, or licensed by the system manufacturer to install product. 1.05 TESTING AND PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Test Units 1. All tests, unless otherwise noted, shall conform to the impact, static and cyclic tests as set forth by Metropolitan Dade County Building Code Compliance Office. B. Test Procedure and Performance. 1. Abatement System shall conform to criteria for conducting impact, static and cyclic air pressure tests as set forth by Metropolitan Dade County Building Code Compliance Office. 2. Impact Test – PA 201-94 adn302.1 – 302.3.2 a. Missile Impact Louver with a solid S4S nominal 2 x 4 , #2 surface dry Southern Pine of not less than 8’-6” in length and 9-9-1/2 lbs in weight at a velocity between 50 and 52 ft/sec. without defined specimen failure. 3. Cyclic Wind Pressure Loading Test - PA 203 and 302.4 – 302.7.3 a. Apply loads to the specimen using the cycles specified in The South Florida Building Code and as in Table 1 of SSTD 12-97 without failure. b. Specimen Design Pressure (DP) Rating should not be less than 150 psf. 4. Uniform Static Pressure Test – PA 202 – 94. a. Conduct static load test in accordance with ASTM E 330. Deflection should not exceed l/180 when subject to a uniform load. 1.06 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: Manufacturer’s specifications, certified test data and installation instructions. B. Shop Drawings: Submit scaled shop drawings including all conditions of construction, location diagrams including identification of and spacing of anchorage. C. Test Reports 1. Provide certified independent laboratory test reports verifying compliance with requirements in Section 1.05 D. Samples 1. Submit ( ) 12” x 24” lengths of membrane fabric. 2. Submit ( ) color samples of finish to be used. E. Warranties 1. Provide manufacturer’s warranty in accordance with the contract documents. 2. Provide installation warranty in accordance with the contract documents. 1.08 WARRANTY A. Stating that wind abatement system will be free from defects and workmanship for a period of five (5) years from date of substantial completion. B. The contractor shall assume responsibility for handling, installation and weatherseal for a period of one (1) year from the date of substantial completion. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS A. Storm Catcher Inc. 2. Architect Approved Equal a. Products of other manufacturers must be pre-qualified to bid not less than 10 days prior to bid date. b. Submit proof of compliance with Metropolitan Dade County Code Compliance criteria for large missile impact test including supporting technical data, engineering calculation, certification of equivalent experience and samples for comparison. B. Screen Barrier 1. Fabric panels of polypropylene, woven mono-filament geotextile fabric with sewn edges and polypropylene webbing attachment straps with all components UV resistant. Fabric shall have individual filaments woven into a basket weave pattern and calendered as required to allow filaments to retain dimensional stability. 2. Perimeter edges shall be folded back to form a quad layered, flat felled edge seam and sewn into the panel. 3. Top attachment shall consist of polypropolyene webbing closed loops sewn into the perimeter edges at 24 inches on center. 4. Bottom and Side attachments shall consist of polypropolyene webbing straps with permanently captured acetal plastic buckles, sewn into the perimeter edges at 24 inches on center. C. Anchors 1. All anchors to be non-ferrous metal or hot dipped galvanized and suited for substrates as provided. 2. Size, type and design required by the system design engineer. 2.03 FABRICATION A. Factory fabricate screen barrier panels complete and ready for installation without field adjustment. B. Identify each separate panel with an identification tag indicating installed location with descriptive references sufficient to implement installation without requiring use of a location plan where feasible. C. Provide polypropylene bags for storage. D. Fabricate screen panels of similar size and shape to reduce the number of different types where feasible. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION A. After verification of field conditions and properly prepared openings, install wind abatement system in strict accordance with approved submittal drawings. B. Provide anchors, bolts, inserts and accessories required for a complete installation. 3.02 PROTECTION A. After installation, remove and store units in location designated by Owner. END OF SECTION
